She was natural within Montclair, New Jersey and studied sustaining Walter Raninger around Canada.

Inside 1979, she joined a Darmstadt Opera, inside which she mass produced her debut when Anna in Die lustigen Weiber von Windsor. In the subsequent 5 years she processed appearances throughout Germany & at Covent Garden and La Scala. She manufactured her Metropolitan Opera debut within 1988 in Richard Strauss's Ariadne auf Naxos.

She is widely recognized when one of a nifty lyric sopranos, & she as well appears crane-like. She has recorded widely sustaining numerous of the leading conductors.

She was briefly married to the Swedish baritone, Håkan Hagegård.
